Collect One

If there are two celebrations of the Holy Communion this collect may be used at the first.

Almighty God,
who through thine only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
hast overcome death,
and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life;
We humbly beseech thee,
that, as by thy special grace preventing us
thou dost put into our minds good desires,
so by thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit,
ever one God, world without end.

Collect Two

Almighty God,
through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
you have overcome death
and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:
Grant that, as by your grace going before us
you put into our minds good desires,
so by your continual help we may bring them to good effect;
through Jesus Christ our risen Lord
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

The First Reading

The Psalm

Easter Anthems

1 Christ our passover has been | sacri•ficed | for us, ■
therefore let us | cele|brate the | feast,

2 Not with the old leaven of cor|ruption • and | wickedness, ■
but with the unleavened | bread of • sincerity • and | truth.

3 Christ, once raised from the dead | dies no | more; ■
death has no | more do|minion | over him.

4 In dying, he died to sin | once for | all; ■
in | living, • he | lives to | God.

5 See yourselves therefore as | dead to | sin; ■
and alive to God in | Jesus | Christ our | Lord.

6 Christ has been | raised • from the | dead: ■
the | firstfruits • of | those who | sleep.

7 For as by | man came | death, ■
by man has come also the resur|rection | of the | dead.

8 For as in | Adam • all | die, ■
even so in Christ shall | all be | made a|live.

Post Communion Prayer

Living God,
for our redemption you gave your only-begotten Son
to the death of the cross,
and by his glorious resurrection
you have delivered us from the power of our enemy.
Grant us so to die daily unto sin,
that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his risen life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Collect Of The Word

Brightness of God’s glory,
whom death could not conquer
nor the tomb imprison:
as you have shared our frailty in human flesh,
help us to share your immortality in the Spirit;
let no shadow of the grave terrify us,
and no fear of darkness turn our hearts from you.
Reveal yourself to us this day and all our days,
as the First and the Last, the Living One,
our immortal Saviour and Lord.
