The Word of God
A Psalm
Psalm 128
1Blessed are all those who | fear the | Lord, ■
and | walk | in his | ways.
2You shall eat the fruit of the | toil•of your | hands; ■
it shall go well with you, and | happy | shall you | be.
3Your wife within your house shall be like a | fruitful | vine; ■
your children round your table, like | fresh | olive | branches.
4Thus shall the | one be | blest ■
who | fears | – the | Lord.
5The Lord from out of | Zion | bless you, ■
that you may see Jerusalem in prosperity | all the | days of your | life.
6May you see your | children’s | children, ■
and may there be | peace | upon | Israel.
Psalm 129
1‘Many a time have they fought against me | from my | youth,’ ■
may | Israel | now | say;
2‘Many a time have they fought against me | from my | youth, ■
but they have | not pre | vailed a | gainst me.’
3The ploughers | ploughed upon my | back ■
and | made their | furrows | long.
4But the | righteous | Lord ■
has cut the | cords•of the | wicked in | pieces.
5Let them be put to shame and | turned | backwards, ■
as many | as are | enemies of | Zion.
6Let them be like grass up | on the | housetops, ■
which | withers be | fore it can | grow,
7So that no reaper can | fill his | hand, ■
nor a | binder of | sheaves his | bosom;
8And none who go by may say, ‘The blessing of the Lord | be up | on you. ■
We | bless you•in the | name of the | Lord.’
Psalm 130
1Out of the depths have I cried to you, O Lord; Lord, | hear my | voice; ■
let your ears consider well the | voice•of my | suppli | cation.
2If you, Lord, were to mark what is | done a | miss, ■
O | Lord, | who could | stand?
3But there is for | giveness with | you, ■
so | that you | shall be | feared.
4I wait for the Lord; my | soul | waits for him; ■
in his | word | is my | hope.
5My soul waits for the Lord, more than the night watch | for the | morning, ■
more than the | night watch | for the | morning.
6O Israel, | wait•for the | Lord, ■
for with the | Lord | there is | mercy;
7With him is | plenteous re | demption ■
and he shall redeem | Israel from | all their | sins.
A Canticle
Which may be said here or between the readings
1 We praise you, O God,
We acclaim you as the Lord; all creation worships you,
the Father everlasting.
2 To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,
the cherubim and seraphim, sing in endless praise:
3 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
4 The glorious company of apostles praise you;
the noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
5 The white-robed army of martyrs praise you;
throughout the world, the holy Church acclaims you:
6 Father, of majesty unbounded,
your true and only Son, worthy of all praise,
the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
Part 2
7 You, Christ, are the King of glory,
the eternal Son of the Father.
8 When you took our flesh to set us free,
you humbly chose the Virgin’s womb.
9 You overcame the sting of death
and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
10 You are seated at God’s right hand in glory:
we believe that you will come to be our judge.
11 Come then, Lord, and help your people,
bought with the price of your own blood,
12 and bring us with your saints
to glory everlasting.
One or two readings
The Gospel Canticle
Benedictus
1 Blessèd be the Lord the God of Israel,
who has come to his people and set them free.
2 The Lord has raised up for us a mighty saviour,
born of the house of his servant David.
3 Through the holy prophets God promised of old
to save us from our enemies,
from the hands of those who hate us,
4 to show mercy to our forebears,
and to remember his holy covenant.
5 This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hand of our enemies.
6 Free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous before him all the days of our life.
7 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
8 To give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of all their sins.
9 In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us.
10 To shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning is now and shall be forever. Amen
The Apostles’ Creed
May be said
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Collect of the Day
Everlasting God,
you have ordained and constituted the ministries
of angels and mortals in a wonderful order:
Grant that as your holy angels always serve you in heaven,
so, at your command,
they may help and defend us on earth;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Alternative collects
O God, the author of peace and lover of concord,

may not fear the power of any adversaries;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everliving God,
we give you thanks for bringing us safely to this day:
Keep us from falling into sin or running into danger,
and in all things guide us to know and do your will;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Go before us, Lord, in all our doings, with your most gracious favour,
and further us with your continual help;
that in all our works begun, continued and ended in you,
we may glorify your holy name,
and finally by your mercy attain everlasting life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Heavenly Father,
in whom we live and move and have our being:
We humbly pray that your Holy Spirit may so guide and govern us

through Jesus Christ our Lord.
