The Word of God
A Psalm
Psalm 107: 1-32
1O give thanks to the Lord, for | he is | gracious, ■
for his steadfast | love en | dures for | ever.
2Let the redeemed of the | Lord | say this, ■
those he re | deemed•from the | hand of the | enemy,
3And gathered out of the lands from the east and | from the | west, ■
from the | north and | from the | south.
4Some went astray in | desert | wastes ■
and found no | path•to a | city to | dwell in.
5Hungry | and | thirsty, ■
their | soul was | fainting with | in them.
6So they cried to the | Lord•in their | trouble ■
and he de | livered them from | their dis | tress.
7He set their feet on the | right | way ■
till they | came•to a | city to | dwell in.
8Let them give thanks to the | Lord•for his | goodness ■
and the | wonders he | does•for his | children.
9For he satisfies the | longing | soul ■
and fills the | hungry | soul with | good.
10Some sat in darkness and in the | shadow of | death, ■
bound | fast in | misery and | iron,
11For they had rebelled against the | words of | God ■
and despised the | counsel•of the | Most | High.
12So he bowed down their | heart with | heaviness; ■
they stumbled and | there was | none to | help them.
13Then they cried to the | Lord•in their | trouble, ■
and he de | livered them from | their dis | tress.
14He brought them out of darkness and out of the | shadow of | death, ■
and | broke their | bonds a | sunder.
16For he has broken the | doors of | bronze ■
and breaks the | bars of | iron in | pieces.
17Some were foolish and took a re | bellious | way, ■
and were | plagued be | cause of | their wrongdoing.
18Their soul abhorred all | manner of | food ■
and drew | near•to the | gates of | death.
19Then they cried to the | Lord•in their | trouble, ■
and he de | livered them from | their dis | tress.
20He sent forth his | word and | healed them, ■
and | saved them | from des | truction.
21Let them give thanks to the | Lord•for his | goodness ■
and the | wonders he | does•for his | children.
22Let them offer him | sacrifices of | thanksgiving ■
and tell of his | acts with | shouts of | joy.
23Those who go down to the | sea in | ships ■
and ply their | trade in | great | waters,
24These have seen the | works•of the | Lord ■
and his | wonders | in the | deep.
25For at his word the stormy | wind a | rose ■
and lifted | up the | waves of the | sea.
26They were carried up to the heavens and down a | gain•to the | deep; ■
their soul | melted a | way•in their | peril.
27They reeled and | staggered•like a | drunkard ■
and were | at their | wits’ | end.
28Then they cried to the | Lord•in their | trouble, ■
and he brought them | out of | their dis | tress.
29He made the | storm be | still ■
and the | waves of the | sea were | calmed.
30Then were they glad because they | were at | rest, ■
and he brought them to the | haven | they de | sired.
32Let them exalt him in the congre | gation•of the | people ■
and praise him in the | council | of the | elders.
A Canticle
Which may be said here or between the readings
1 We praise you, O God,
We acclaim you as the Lord; all creation worships you,
the Father everlasting.
2 To you all angels, all the powers of heaven,
the cherubim and seraphim, sing in endless praise:
3 Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
4 The glorious company of apostles praise you;
the noble fellowship of prophets praise you.
5 The white-robed army of martyrs praise you;
throughout the world, the holy Church acclaims you:
6 Father, of majesty unbounded,
your true and only Son, worthy of all praise,
the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.
Part 2
7 You, Christ, are the King of glory,
the eternal Son of the Father.
8 When you took our flesh to set us free,
you humbly chose the Virgin’s womb.
9 You overcame the sting of death
and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
10 You are seated at God’s right hand in glory:
we believe that you will come to be our judge.
11 Come then, Lord, and help your people,
bought with the price of your own blood,
12 and bring us with your saints
to glory everlasting.

The Gospel Canticle
Benedictus
1 Blessèd be the Lord the God of Israel,
who has come to his people and set them free.
2 The Lord has raised up for us a mighty saviour,
born of the house of his servant David.
3 Through the holy prophets God promised of old
to save us from our enemies,
from the hands of those who hate us,
4 to show mercy to our forebears,
and to remember his holy covenant.
5 This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hand of our enemies.
6 Free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous before him all the days of our life.
7 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
8 To give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of all their sins.
9 In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us.
10 To shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning is now and shall be forever. Amen
The Apostles’ Creed
May be said
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Almighty God,
whose Son restored Mary Magdalene
to health of mind and body

that we may serve you in the power of his risen life;
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
