Saint Stephen

Collect One

Grant, O Lord, that in all our sufferings here upon earth
for the testimony of thy truth,
we may steadfastly look up to heaven,
and by faith behold the glory that shall be revealed;
and, being filled with the Holy Spirit,
may learn to love and bless our persecutors
by the example of thy first martyr Saint Stephen,
who prayed for his murderers to thee,
O blessed Jesus, who standest at the right hand of God
to succour all those that suffer for thee,
our only Mediator and Advocate.

Collect Two

Gracious Father,
who gave the first martyr Stephen
grace to pray for those who stoned him:
Grant that in all our sufferings for the truth
we may learn to love even our enemies
and to seek forgiveness for those who desire our hurt,
looking up to heaven to him who was crucified for us,
Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Advocate,
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Introduction to the Peace

Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given,
and his name shall be called the Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

You have given Jesus Christ your only Son to be born of the Virgin Mary,
and through him you have given us power to become the children of God:

Christ, who by his incarnation gathered into one all things earthly and heavenly,
fill you with his joy and peace:
