The Representative Church Body Library’s Archive of the Month for March 2021 shares a personal history of Geashill parish church, which is located in County Offaly and the Diocese of Kildare.
The Church of Ireland Gazette Digital Archive is now complete. All editions of the newspaper from its foundation in 1856 up to and including 2010 are freely available electronically, allowing the worldwide audience to view and search it using any name, place, or other search term.
The first Archive of the Month for 2021 from the RCB Library, and the penultimate feature piece in its ongoing ‘Borderless Church’ series, is an examination of the 1980s decade through the lens of The Church of Ireland Gazette, the Church’s then weekly newspaper, in conjunction with the online release of all editions for that decade, 1980–89 inclusive.
The final Archive of the Month in December 2020 from the RCB Library is an examination of the 1970s through the lens of the Church of Ireland Gazette, the Church’s weekly newspaper, in conjunction with the online release of all editions for that decade – 1970–79 inclusive.
November’s Archive of the Month from the Representative Church Body Library provides a further examination of the transformative decade of the 1960s on the island of Ireland from a Church of Ireland perspective.
Archive editions of the Church of Ireland Gazette, covering 1960 to 1969, are now available online alongside a further presentation in the ‘Borderless Church’ series from the Representative Church Body Library.
Responses to a request to help identify people and places in the RCB Library’s lantern slide collection have joined up historic street scenes with their locations in Belfast.
The Representative Church Body Library’s long–term project to digitize and make freely available the complete run of the Church’s all–island newspaper, the Church of Ireland Gazette (in print since 1856) is about to be fulfilled with the addition of the remaining decades from 1950 to 2009 to the existing online search engine.
Since most Irish bishops do not seem to have left much in the way of archives, when episcopal collections do turn up, it is significant because it opens a window to their lives and works.
