Church and Society Commission

Environmental examples from the Church of Ireland

In a two–minute video presented to the Church of Ireland’s General Synod by the Church and Society Commission, three examples of parish environmental projects are highlighted:

– gardening in the grounds of St Mary’s Church, Carlow (Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory);

– solar panels at the Dunluce Parish Centre, in Bushmills (Diocese of Connor); and

– keep–cups to reduce the use of plastic at Holywood Parish Church (Diocese of Down and Dromore).

The Church and Society Commission also organised two seminars over the last year, in Dublin and Belfast, to inspire and encourage parishes to take practical actions to reduce their carbon footprint and encourage biodiversity.
