Dr Rosemary Black, a parishioner of St John’s, Malone, last month walked the Camino Frances from Sarria to Santiago de la Compostela in Galithia in Spain – a distance of 117km. In completing this challenge, Rosemary has to date raised £1928.75 for South Belfast Foodbank, part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust. Rosemary has volunteered with the Foodbank for the past five years since retiring as a hospital doctor.
A Diocesan Teenage Summer Camp was held in Gurteen college recently. The Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory linked up with the Diocese of Limerick bringing together teenagers from both dioceses.
Cavehill Cross at St Peter’s represents hope in face of terror
A difficult story, recently shared by St Peter’s Parish Church, Antrim Road, Belfast, recalls the murder 50 years ago of teenager Stephen Parker. From the wreckage of the debris at the place he died, the Cavehill Cross was constructed, and it stands at the back of St Peter’s Church, both as a reminder of that atrocity and of a determination to be hopeful in the face of horror.On Friday 29 July Kilhorne Church (Annalong) held their annual Tractor Run and raised over £3,700 for parishioner Jane White who volunteers with Mercy Ships. The event took place just as the good weather broke however, as Rector, the Revd Geoff Hamilton says, “it takes more than rain to stop the people of Mourne from having a great night!”
