General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for Parishes

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) took effect across Europe from 25 May 2018.

It replaced the existing law on data protection and gave individuals more rights and protection in how their personal data is used by organisations. Personal data is information about a living person which is capable of identifying them.

Parishes must comply with its requirements, just like any other charity or organisation.  If charities are not compliant, they can face a fine of up to 4% of their turnover or €20m (or sterling equivalent), whichever is larger.  There are a number of steps to becoming compliant and we have developed some useful templates to support you in doing this. They can be found below.

We have also developed an information poster. If you would like a hard copy of this poster please contact: rebekah.fozzard@rcbdub.org

See more at www.ireland.anglican.org/gdpr or the Document Library.
