General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for Parishes

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which took effect across Europe from May 2018, replaced the existing law on data protection and gave individuals more rights and protection in how their personal data is used by organisations. Personal data is information about a living person which is capable of identifying them.

Parishes must comply with its requirements, in the same way as they apply to any other charity or organisation. If charities are not compliant, they can face a fine of up to 4% of their turnover or €20m (or sterling equivalent), whichever is larger.

There are a number of steps to becoming compliant and we have developed some templates to support you in doing this. Please see below and, for more information, email: dataprotection@rcbcoi.org
