New Gazette Editor

Ms Emma Blain has been appointed Editor of the Church of Ireland Gazette. She began her career in journalism with the Sunday Independent and Sunday Independent LIFE magazine and has contributed to many other publications as a freelance journalist, writing for The Herald, IMAGE Business and Irish Tatler among others. She is also experienced in online communications, having worked as Head of Digital for Fine Gael for many years through various election campaigns.

Educated in Wesley College, and University College Dublin where she obtained her MA in Politics, Ms Blain lives in Dublin and is a member of Taney parish, Dundrum. As a mother of two small children, and an elected County Councillor, she values the importance of community and in connecting our communities throughout the island.

She recognises the historic and important role the Gazette has played in the Church of Ireland and is committed, as Editor, to continue to inform, entertain, engage and connect readers and members of the Church of Ireland through the pages of the monthly magazine.

The new Bishop of Connor, the Rt Revd George Davison, has appointed as his successor as Archdeacon of Belfast, the Revd Barry Forde, Chaplain of the Hub, the Church of Ireland Student Centre at Queen’s University. The new archdeacon, studied law at Dundee University, trained to be a barrister in Belfast and after practising for three years worked for a financial services company. He trained in the Church of Ireland Theological College and studied theology at Trinity College Dublin where he was elected to scholarship and was ordained in 2007.

Tomorrow (Sunday) morning the Archbishop of Dublin will celebrate the Eucharist and preach in Whitechurch.

The clergy of the Christ Church cathedral, Dublin, group of parishes will celebrate Holy Communion live from the RTE Studios tomorrow (Sunday) at 11 am.  Within the parish boundary lie the headquarters of An Garda Siochana and on this occasion the clergy will be joined by members of the Garda Band who will play well known hymns and the Garda commissioner will read a lesson.  This service will take the form of Rite One from the Book of Common Prayer and the Ven David Pierpoint will be the celebrant and the Revd Ross Styles will preach. The service will be broadcast on RTE 1 television and RTE Radio 1 Extra.

The Dean of Limerick and Rector of Limerick City Parish, the Very Revd Niall Sloane, has appointed the Revd Bernadette Daly as Dean’s Vicar in the parish. Ms Daly is a former  Director of Pastoral Studies at the Church of Ireland Theological College. She has served as a chaplain in Dublin hospitals and in Trinity College, Dublin. She has also served in the Diocese of Europe. Ms Daly’s Service of Installation and Welcome will take place in St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick, tomorrow (Sunday) at 11.15am.

On Monday the Archbishop of Dublin will chair a meeting of the Network of Inter Faith European and North American Concerns hosted by the Scottish Episcopal Church, and on Wednesday afternoon Lord Mayor Hazel Chu and Mr Brendan Kenny, Deputy Chief Executive of Dublin City Council, will pay a courtesy call to the See House. Choral Evensong, sung by the Girls’ Choir, will resume in Christ Church cathedral, Dublin, this week at 6pm.

After a long delay the Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Revd John McDowell, has moved from Clogher to the See House in Armagh. However, a date has yet to be set for his enthronement in St Patrick’s cathedral.
