New funding opportunities for church buildings (NI)

Treasure Ireland is a new project to support historic places of worship in Northern Ireland which will run for three years from 2020 to 2023. If you are responsible for looking after a place of worship, our project will make it easier for you to look after your church or chapel buildings.

We will offer grants for repairs and help and advice with maintenance to help keep your church or chapel in good condition and so avoid having to carry out expensive repairs.

Northern Ireland has an amazingly rich heritage of church and chapel buildings. This includes 895 listed places of worship, with 45 churches and chapels listed as Grade A, buildings of the highest heritage significance. We want more people to appreciate their architecture and history and Treasure Ireland will help put churches and chapels on the tourist map.

Treasure Ireland will also provide a comprehensive range of training and mentoring to help you look after your place of worship. Training sessions will cover topics including how to write funding bids, building maintenance, heritage interpretation and tourism.

A big thank you to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Pilgrim Trust and the Department of Communities who have helped to make Treasure Ireland possible.
