5k a day for 100 days – Go Mark!
Mark Jamison, a Connor Lay Reader based mainly in St Paul’s Parish, Lisburn, is in the middle of a challenge to run 5km a day for 100 consecutive days.
He began his challenge on the VE Day 75th anniversary Bank Holiday on May 8, and won’t finish until August 15.
Mark has undertaken this 500km challenge to raise funds for NHS Charities Together, which supports families of front line workers within the NHS who are suffering during the Covid–19 pandemic.
He said: “At the moment, the world is battling Covid–19, and I am going to try to raise some funds as a thank you for those who are going into work in our hospitals, holding the hands of their patients, suffering unknown stress whilst wearing PPE (when they can get it) to try and keep us all safe and healthy.”
Mark is a father of two boys, and his wife works as a nurse in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.
“We had booked our dream holiday to Disney World in July, but that now is looking increasingly unlikely – the plan was to complete this challenge at Universal Studios!” Mark said.
“My wife and I are like many parents – working, schooling our children and trying to make the best of this crisis, and it’s not easy. Hopefully charities such as NHS Charities Together can help NHS families who are finding it difficult to juggle all these things, and still care for patients as well.”
