Call for churches to unite in Lord’s prayer amidst Covid–19

Upon invitation from Pope Francis, the Conference of European Churches’ President, the Rev Christian Krieger, and General Secretary, Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen, have shared the following call with CEC Member Churches, National Councils of Churches and Organisations in Partnership urging them to unite in the Lord’s Prayer on 25 March at 12 noon for a world affected by Covid–19.

Esteemed Church leaders,

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Conference of European Churches has received this letter from The Vatican. At a time when our world is dramatically affected by COVID–19, Pope Francis has invited us to unite in this prayer at the same time, this Wednesday 25 March 2020 at 12 noon.

During these times of global uncertainty, we need signs of unity and hope. The prayer that has been taught to us by Christ unites Christianity across space and time. Christians of all countries, and Christians of all times have addressed God with these words which invoke the coming of his reign.

The world today calls us to be united. Not only fighting against this devastating pandemic, but also in order to support one another and to feel in communion, remembering to draw lessons from this crisis.

The Conference of European Churches invites you to join in this invitation from Pope Francis by disseminating information by all means available to you, encouraging your congregations and communities to join the prayer in an ecumenical spirit of Christian fellowship.

Yours in Christ,

Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen
CEC General Secretary

The Rev Christian Krieger
CEC President
