Bishop Rooke’s Guidance Regarding TKA and Covid 19 – Coronavirus

It is clear that we are in unprecedented times. We will all face a range of difficult decisions and challenges in the days and weeks ahead.

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD made a statement earlier today, 12th March 2020, with which all members of the Church of Ireland in the Republic of Ireland are expected to comply.

The request is that there should be no indoor gatherings of more than 100 people, and in order to err on the side of caution, clergy in the Diocese of Tuam, Killala and Achonry are asked to consider carefully the holding of any services and meetings in their local context between now and 29th March.

Each cleric may decide whether it is appropriate to hold normal services but those who go ahead must be aware that numbers should be limited to 100.

This request extends to public gatherings for Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, ensuring that the other requirements of the HSE, as set out in their guidelines, are adequately followed. This includes directions on matters such as hand–sanitising and social distancing.

Where normal services are cancelled, local arrangements must be made for churches to be open to allow for private prayer.

All diocesan gatherings between now and 29th March will be postponed.

At this time, I am urging clergy, readers, Church Army evangelists and parishioners across the Diocese to show solidarity and to give such support as they can to everyone in the community, particularly to the isolated and vulnerable.
