Remembrance Sunday service in Londonderry

The Archbishop’s Commissary, the Ven Robert Miller, and the Pastoral Assistant at St Columb’s Cathedral, the Rev Canon John Merrick, were among the church leaders who took part in the Royal British Legion’s annual Remembrance Sunday Service in Londonderry yesterday. They were joined by the Bishop of Derry, Dr Donal McKeown, the Methodist Superintendent, the Rev Richard Johnston, and the minister of Ebrington Presbyterian Church, the Rev Paul Linkens.

Hundreds of people – many wearing poppies – braved the autumnal chill to take part in the annual Act of Remembrance in the Diamond. They watched the Lord Lieutenant for the County Borough of Londonderry, Dr Angela Garvey, lead a wreath–laying ceremony at the cenotaph.

Wreaths were also laid by members of the armed services, veterans’ organisations, and representatives of political, civic and community life in the North West.
