‘Mind Yourself’ in Meath and Kildare

The Church of Ireland dioceses of Meath and Kildare is launching ‘Mind Yourself’ – a new community project to raise awareness of mental health issues. Tomorrow (Sunday) at 6.30pm a launch event will take place in St Brigid’s cathedral, Kildare, with the Discovery Gospel Choir.

One of the key issues affecting people today is their mental health – there is not a family in Ireland that does not have someone who struggles with mental health issues. The project aims to raise awareness of mental health issues, point people to where they can find support and help, and do some fundraising for Aware, one of the national mental health charities.

Aware will be one of the partners in this venture, as will the Church of Ireland Bishops’ Appeal, which will focus on mental health issues affecting refugees and those in our Direct Provision centres. The Church’s Ministry of Healing is also a partner.

This will be a ‘pay at the door’ event only so it will be a ‘first come first served’, as the Cathedral holds about 300 people at its full capacity. Any funds raised at the event will go to support the work of Aware. A staff member of Aware will also speak at the event.

All Saints Church and School Spring Fair will be held in the church grounds on Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock, today (Saturday) from 10.00am–1.00pm.

Tomorrow (Sunday) evening at 4pm in Christ Church, Fermoy, the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross will institute the Revd Gary Paulsen to the incumbency of the Fermoy group of parishes. Mr Paulsen has been Dean of Killaloe since 2103.

The Dublin and Glendalough Retired Clergy Fellowship will meet in Christ Church cathedral on Tuesday at 12.45pm for a celebration of Holy Communion followed by a light lunch and a talk on art within the cathedral.

The Featherstonhaugh Lecture in the Church of Ireland Theological Institute will be held on Wednesday at 3pm when Canon George Lings will speak on ‘The re–imagination of Church’. Dr George Lings is one of England’s leading missiologists and an expert on the development of Fresh Expressions in the UK. Until recently he directed the Church Army Research Unit in Sheffield and has contributed to ground–breaking research on the contemporary state of the church. He is particularly identified with the Mission–shaped Church report and has visited Ireland on numerous occasions. All are welcome to attend. Please contact janekelly@theologicalinstitute.ie to secure a booking.

On Thursday afternoon at 2pm the Archbishop of Dublin will officiate at a re–dedication at St Michan’s parish church.

On Saturday 13 April at 8pm there will be a concert in aid of the Christ Church, Tramore, organ restoration fund. Giovanni Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater will be performed by the Wexford Festival Singers accompanied by the Musici Ireland string quartetand Eithne Corrigan on piano. The soloists will be Róisín O’Grady (soprano) and Sandra Wickham (contralto) with conductor, Dr Kevin O’Carroll. The other performance on the night will be the Agnus Dei by Liam Bates, the contemporary Irish composer. Tickets at €15 are available from Cahill’s Newsagent, Tramore, from the Christ Church cathedral, Waterford, or at the door on the night.

The Commission of Ministry’s Holy Week retreat, led by the Bishop of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory, on the theme of Judas, will be held in CITI from 15–19 April. Residential and non–residential places are available and intending participants should contact Dr Bridget Nichols at bridgetnichols@theologicalinstitute.ie
