Connor Clergy Conference, held every three years, returned to the Slieve Russell Hotel in Co Cavan for the fourth time from November 7–9.

Guest speakers were Dr George Lings of Church Army and Dr Janet Unsworth from Edgehill College, Belfast.

More than 70 clergy along with Connor staff and members of the diocesan development team attended the conference which ran from 2pm on Wednesday until lunchtime on Friday. They enjoyed three excellent days of fellowship, teaching and relaxation.

As well as sessions led by the inspirational speakers, there was worship each day, beginning with Eucharist on Wednesday afternoon, and including late evening office (Wednesday), Morning Prayer (Thursday), Compline (Thursday evening) and closing prayers.

The Revs Jonny Campbell–Smyth, Ian Mills and Jason Kernohan provided musical accompaniment to worship.

On Thursday evening, members of the Connor team gave an update on their work. Communications Officer Karen Bushby gave an overview of the benefits and pitfalls of social media and encouraged all clergy to support the diocesan magazine Connor Connections by contributing news items and ideas, and helping to distribute the magazine.

Youth Officer Christina Baillie spoke about a Journey, a youth resource which is unique in that it has been written by young people for young people by members of Connor Youth Forum.

The session was concluded by Children’s Project Development Officer Jill Hamilton who introduced a new Sunday School resource produced by Jill and the Children’s Council called All Aboard, currently being piloted in some parishes across the diocese.

Over the three days everyone enjoyed the comforts of the hotel, including lovely rooms, fabulous food, the gorgeous grounds, the spa and, for some, a round of golf.
