Bishops' Appeal meet the President

On Wednesday 9th February, representatives of Bishops’ Appeal attended a reception given by President McAleese in honour of groups that contributed to Ireland’s generous response to the Tsunami disaster.

Christian Aid, Oxfam, the Irish Red Cross and Refugee Trust were among the other organisations that attended ras an Uachtaráin in addition to Bishops’ Appeal.

The President and her husband, Dr Martin McAleese, first greeted everyone individually before Mrs McAleese gave a speech praising them for their hard work and dedication. This was followed by the planting of a tree in the garden of the Ã?ras in commemoration of all those who lost their lives in South East Asia.

Education Adviser, Martin O’Connor, was delighted at the opportunity for some of those involved in the recent Tsunami appeal to meet the President. “We greatly appreciate the recognition by Her Excellency of the hard work done by all those behind the scenes, he said. “Without their efforts, the work of Bishops’ Appeal would not be as successful as it is.

Those who attended from Bishops’ Appeal were: Rt Revd Michael Mayes, Revd Olive Donohoe, Ms Doreen Smyth, Mr Martin O’Connor, Ms Yvonne Gough, Mr Albert Smallwoods, Revd Kevin Dalton, Mr Martin Manguriko and Mr Bill Kingston.
