Bishops' Appeal Committee

BISHOPS' APPEAL COMMITTEE
15th November 2004

On Monday 15th November, the Bishop?s Appeal Advisory Committee held its 200th meeting. The excellent work of the Committee was continued with allocations being made for emergency relief in Sudan (Euro 15,000), a primary school project for Uganda and Kenya (Euro 6,000) and Stg £ 14,500 being sent to the visually impaired in India.

Following the resignation of Rev Ian Poulton after 10 years service, the Standing Committee confirmed Mrs. Alison Rooke as the new member of the Committee. Alison is the wife of Canon Patrick Rooke, the rector of Portstewart parish. A teacher by profession she is very involved with the Church of Ireland through her work with the Mothers? Union and her columns for the Gazette.

The Education Adviser, Martin O?Connor, was invited to give a talk to the 3rd to 6th classes of St. Luke?s School, O?Mahoney?s Avenue, Cork on 1st December. In the Diocese of Derry, a fundraising project established to help the region of Orissa in India is nearing completion. It culminated with a service in All Saints, Clooney on Advent Sunday.

Their next meeting will be held on 24th January 2005.
