CENTRAL COMMUNICATIONS BOARD
8th December 2004
- Accessible communications were at the centre of a meeting of the Central Communications Board held on 8th December 2004. Current disability legislation in Northern Ireland requires equal access in terms of goods, services and facilities and it is likely that similar legislation will soon be passed in the Republic of Ireland. With this in mind, the Communications Board is working on improving the accessibility of Church of Ireland services.
- The Director of Communications, Mrs Janet Maxwell, reported the success of the Large Print Hymnal to date and confirmed that a proposal for a third reprint has been circulated to the Honorary Secretaries.
- The provision of a text transcoder system to improve the accessibility of websites and ensure that all parish websites comply with both legislation and best practice was also discussed. The Church of Ireland is currently negotiating a leasing agreement on this software and details will be circulated in the New Year.
The Broadcasting Committee's responses to the proposed Ofcom Broadcasting Code and its Review of Public Service Television Broadcasting were circulated. These texts can be read in full on the Broadcasting Committee section of this website.
The next meeting of the Central Communications Board will be held on 8th February 2005
