The institution of the Revd Johnny McLoughlin as Rector of Aghavea Parish, was conducted by the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd John McDowell, on Friday evening, 29th June, the Feast of St Peter.

Mr McLoughlin comes to Clogher Diocese from neighbouring Armagh Diocese, where he was Rector of Clonfeacle, Derrygortreavy and Eglish parishes.  The lessons were read by Mr David Atwell, Parish Reader, and the Revd Margaret Pringle, Non Stipendiary Minister, who conducted services in Aghavea during the vacancy.  The preacher was the Revd Robert Boyd, Rector of Glendermott and Newbuildings, Diocese of Derry and Raphoe.

The hymns were “We love the place, O God,” “How lovely is your dwelling place,” “Lord, the light of your love is shining” and “And can it be that I should gain.” The choir sang an anthem, “How good it is.” The organist was Mrs Myrtle Graydon.

The new Rector was presented to the Bishop by the Dean of Clogher, the Very Revd Kenneth Hall and parish representatives took part in the Commission.  The collection was taken up for the Clogher Ministry Fund which facilitates the development of lay and ordained ministry in the Diocese.

Mr McLoughlin, who worked as a computer consultant, was ordained in July 2009 and served his curacy in St Mark’s Parish, Armagh.  He and his wife, Kim have two children, Naomi (21) and Ben (15).

At a reception in the parish hall following the service, Mr McLoughlin and his family were welcomed to the parish by Churchwarden Mr Norman McCoy and by the Revd Colin Milligan from Brookeborough Methodist Church.
