New Dean of Cloyne

The Bishop of Cork, Dr Paul Colton, has announced that he intends to appoint Canon Susan Green, the new incumbent of the Cloyne union of parishes, as Dean of Cloyne in succession to Canon Alan Marley who is now Church of Ireland Chaplain at University College Cork.

Canon Green is a native of Glenageary, Co. Dublin, attended Newpark Comprehensive School, and studied Biblical Studies and Sociology in Trinity College Dublin followed by a H.Dip. in Education. After training in the Church of Ireland Theological College she was ordained deacon in 1992 and priest in 1993. She served her curacy in All Saints, Antrim, in the Diocese of Connor from 1992–1995, and this was followed by five years as Diocesan Youth Officer in Cashel & Ossory Dioceses. On moving to Dublin in 2000, she worked as Hospital Chaplain in Tallaght Hospital. In 2010 she returned to Cashel & Ossory and took up a post as School Chaplain in Kilkenny College. She has also been a member of the Diocesan Council, General Synod, and Standing Committee, and diocesan committees to do mostly with education, youth work and communication.

Canon Green’s husband, the Ven. Andrew Orr, Rector of the Tullow group of parishes and Archdeacon of Ossory & Leighlin, will also move from the Diocese of Cashel, Ferns & Ossory to Cork to serve half–time as priest–in–charge of Youghal union of parishes and also as part–time Chaplain to Midleton College. This is a new post within the Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.

Today (Saturday) Cumann Gaelach hEaglaise will hold its Annual General Meeting in the Chapter House of Christ Church cathedral, Dublin, starting at 1.30pm. There will be refreshments from 1pm and the meeting will be followed by a prayerful walk over to St. Patrick’s cathedral for a guided bilingual tour of the cathedral. At 3.30pm in St Mary’s cathedral, Limerick the Bishop of Limerick & Killaloe will formally welcome and license the Revd Paul Fitzpatrick as Curate–Assistant for the Limerick City parish. The Bishop of Derry & Raphoe will attend Summer Madness and speak at a session with Bishop Donal McKeown.

Tomorrow (Sunday) BBC Radio Ulster’s Morning Service will be broadcast from the Church of St John the Baptist, Agherton, Portstewart, and will be conducted by the rector, Canon Stephen Fielding. The programme will be broadcast at 10.15am. The Revd John Auchmuty will lead a group from the parish of St Columba’s church, Knock, Belfast, to Rathlin Island where he will be the celebrant and preacher at the Sung Eucharist in St. Thomas’ church at 11.30am which will be followed by the parish picnic.

On Tuesday evening at 8pm the Bishop of Cashel, Ferns & Ossory will preside in St Iberius’ church, Wexford, when the Revd Conor O’Reilly will be received into priestly ministry and licensed to be curate in Wexford and Kilscoran union of parishes.

In St Patrick’s cathedral, Dublin, on Wednesday, American Independence Day will be celebrated with a ‘Stars and Stripes Forever’ concert at 6.15pm. The programme will include music from Star Wars, ET and Jurassic Park. The proceeds will go to Clowns without Borders.

‘Summer Music at Sandford’ continues in Sandford parish church, Ranelagh, each Friday during July with the recitals beginning at 1pm. Next Friday there will be a recital by the Dulciana Female Choir directed by Judith Lyons. Admission is free but donations are welcome in aid of the Organ Fund of St Philip’s church, Milltown, with which Sandford is grouped.
