Statement of good wishes by the Right Rev Dr Paul Colton, Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, in response to the announcement of the appointment of Cork’s Canon Tom Deenihan as Bishop of Meath
The Right Reverend Dr Paul Colton, Church of Ireland Bishop of Cork, has made the following statement in response to the news of the appointment of the Very Reverend Canon Tom Deenihan, from Cork, as the next Bishop of Meath:
‘Canon Tom Deenihan has worked closely with the Church of Ireland in Cork, Cloyne and Ross in a variety of ways, and with the ecumenical work that Bishop John Buckley and I are engaged in together day by day in Cork. His work, ecumenically and practically, with me and with the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, in his capacity as Diocesan Secretary of Cork and Ross, and as Diocesan Education Secretary of Cork and Ross, has been particularly important. I have always been grateful for his friendship, good humour and practical help, and, of course, for the arrangements he made when I met Pope Francis in Rome in 2017.
‘It is, therefore, with the greatest of delight that I send him my own personal good wishes, together with those of the members of the Church of Ireland in Cork, on the occasion of his appointment as Bishop of Meath. On behalf of us all in the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross I congratulate him and assure him of our prayers as he prepares for his episcopal ordination and consecration.’
