Day 2
Church of Ireland Launch Daily Worship App at General Synod
The Church of Ireland brought The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) into the smartphone era when it launched its Daily Worship app at the General Synod in Armagh this afternoon, Friday, 11th May.
The app is an initiative from the Church’s Central Communications Board in close co–operation with the Church’s Liturgical Advisory Committee. Daily Worship presents Bible readings, prayers, canticles and Services from the BCP in one place and in a simplified format. These are available for each day of the year, covering five Services: Morning and Evening Daily Prayer, A Late Evening Office, Compline, and Holy Communion.
Launching the app, the Most Revd Pat Storey, Bishop of Meath and Kildare and chair of the Central Communications Board, explained that it provided all the daily services needed for personal and communal worship.
“We sincerely hope that this app will help each of us with our devotional life and increase our biblical knowledge and our spiritual awareness. All the day’s Bible readings are available at the press of a button and there are suggestions each day for personal prayer as well as the daily collect. The designer, Ryan Mitchell, has worked tirelessly on this and has endured an onslaught of helpful feedback and has always been more than willing to seek to meet our needs as a church with this app,” Bishop Storey said. She encouraged members of Synod to download it and wished them every blessing as they used it, ultimately to the glory of God.
Daily Worship can be purchased for €1.09/99p, and downloaded from the App Store (https://apple.co/2rv5aYM) and Google Play (http://bit.ly/2KOaD5t) for use on Apple iOS and Android devices from 10th May.
The app was launched in the context of the report from CCB during the Standing Committee report in which Bishop Storey spoke about a very busy year for the board.
