Down and Dromore Diocesan Evangelist Jim Fleming has been employed by Seagoe Parish to start a new Christian community in Killicomaine, Craigavon.

Jim, who is part–time in the role, has been working out of Killicomaine Community Centre since August last year.

“One of the most encouraging developments has been that I now have five volunteers working alongside me in the CAP Jobs Club.” says Jim.

“We started the CAP Job Club in February where we give practical help and support to local people who are looking for work. We’re halfway through that and have been working on building confidence, what strengths we have, writing applications and CVs and in the next couple of weeks we will be practicing interviews.

“Recently local MLA Carla Lockhart spent the morning with us at the Jobs Club. She chatted and joined in the session on ‘Writing a great CV.’ Carla offered advice and shared stories about being involved with interviews and also on the importance of volunteering.”

Jim has also been working with other churches in the area – Killicomaine Baptist, Killicomaine Evangelical and Pillar Community. On Saturday 3 March they held their first joint event; an evening with former Northern Ireland International footballer Stuart Elliott. About 50 people braved the bad weather to come and hear Stuart share the story of how God found him and the subsequent impact upon his life and career.

“We’ve also been praying about our work among the men in the area,” says Jim, “and this Friday (9 March) we’ll hold our first weekly Men’s Club. In the club we plan to build relationships with the local men, enjoy games of pool, table tennis and darts, drink tea and coffee and have plenty of chat and banter! This will be another joint venture with our three neighbouring churches and will be based at Seagoe’s Killicomaine Youth Centre.

“On 18 April we’ll start our first Alpha Course and plan to invite those we’ve met through the Jobs Club, those we will meet from the Men’s Club and others I’ve encountered around the estate.

“Prayer for all these initiatives will be much appreciated!”
