‘The Winter’s Tale’ in Glaslough

An evening of music and verse reflecting the true meaning of Christmas

‘The Winter’s Tale’ in Glaslough

One of the traditional musical events at Christmas in Clogher Diocese will be staged once again at St Salvator’s Parish Church in Glaslough, Co Monaghan.

‘The Winter’s Tale’ is an evening of music and verse reflecting on the true meaning of the Christmas story running on Monday and Tuesday, 18th and 19th December.

“We live in a world of hype and commercialisation with less thought given to the real reason as to why and how we celebrate Christmas,” explained the Revd Betty Thompson, Non–Stipendiary Minister.

She said there will be decorations by candlelight along the paths to the church as well as inside to bring some added charm to this historic and beautiful church building.

The musical director is Mrs Ethne McCord who trains the Donagh Community Choir and the Junior Church Choir. Gerard Toal will be the organist and pianist for the evening together with Ken Atkinson on violin, George Watson on guitar and Diane Wright–Kendrick and Gareth Corrigan singing a duet. The Very Revd Raymond Thompson will share some of his favourite poems and stories.

Following the event in the church, everyone present walk the short distance to Castle Leslie where tea, coffee and mulled wine and mince pies are served.

Ms Thompson added: “On occasions such as this, friendships are renewed and fellowship shared. This occasion sets the scene for all to celebrate the real reason for the season: the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.”
