Ordinations of Deacons and Priests

Next week brings the first large tranche of autumnal ordinations.

Tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 4pm in St Columb’s cathedral, the Bishop of Derry & Raphoe will ordain Derek Harrington and Stuart Reid to the diaconate to serve in the parishes of Castlederg and Faughanvale respectively. Later, at 6pm, the Bishop of Down & Dromore will hold a service of ordination in Ballyholme parish church where Andrew Irwin for the parish of Donaghcloney, Maithre White–Dundas for Ballyholme and William Jeffrey for Carryduff, will be made deacons. At 7pm, in St Macartan’s cathedral, Clogher, Lindsey Farrell and David Moses will be ordained to the diaconate by the Bishop of Clogher to serve in the parishes of Rossory and Monaghan respectively. All will serve as deacons intern for a year during which time they will work in parishes and continue with studies in the Church of Ireland Theological College, where their principal task will be the production of a dissertation.

Tomorrow (Sunday) evening at 7pm in St Fethlimidh’s cathedral the Bishop of Kilmore will raise the Revd Richard Beadle, the Revd Richard Waller and the Revd Simon Scott to the priesthood. They will serve as curates to the bishop in the Cloonclare, Kildallon and KIldrumferton groups of parishes respectively.

In St Patrick’s cathedral, Dublin, tomorrow (Sunday) the Archbishop of Dublin, who is Prebendary of Cualaun on the cathedral chapter, will preach at Choral Eucharist and Choral Evensong. On Wednesday Dr Jackson will host IDLE, the Inter–Diocesan Learning Experience, at the See House and on Thursday evening at 7.30pm he will preside at the Mothers’ Union Diocesan Festival Service in Christ Church cathedral.

In Christ Church cathedral, Dublin, on Monday evening the first of three sessions on the effects of direct provision will be held. ‘What’s the Story? Lives in Direct Provision’ will provide an opportunity for those currently or previously living in direct provision to share their experiences  and reflect on the themes of family, home and time. Each session will begin at 6.30pm in the cathedral’s Music Room and the second and third session will be on Monday 11 and Monday 18 September.

On Wednesday the Church Army, in partnership with the Diocese of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh, will launch the Drumcliffe Centre of Mission in Co. Sligo which will be commissioned by the Bishop. The Ven. Capt. Isaac Hanna, Rector of the Drumcliffe group of parishes and a Church Army evangelist, has been appointed as the centre’s lead evangelist. He will be supported in this role by pioneer evangelist, Alan Williamson. The Church Army team are planning a wide range of community events and fresh expressions of church to engage with people of all ages living in the area.

A concert will be held at 8pm on Friday 8 September in Calary parish church, Co. Wicklow,when Musici Ireland will play the two Brahms string sextets which are rarely performed due to their intricacy. The Department of Special Collections and Archives in the Library of the University of Limerick is seeking to recruit a cataloguer to work on the Bolton Library which has been transferred from Cashel cathedral.
