Working Group on Disability welcomes proposed ratification of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Church of Ireland’s Working Group on Disability is pleased to note that the Department of Justice and Equality (Republic of Ireland) has presented the Disability (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2016 to the Oireachtas. The primary purpose of the Bill is to address the remaining legislative barriers to Ireland’s ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Working Group welcomes this Bill as the final hurdle to ratification of the UN Convention and is pleased that the Irish Government is fulfilling its commitment following the signing of this Convention in 2007.

More information on the Disability (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2016 is available from the Department of Justice and Equality (Republic of Ireland): www.justice.ie
