The Hard Gospel Project' 'Beyond the Box' seminar - 13th November 2006

?BEYOND THE BOX? SEMINAR

Venue: The Junction, 8 Bishop Street, Derry/Londonderry

Date: Monday, 13 November 2006

Time: 10.30a.m. ? 12.30p.m.

When the Church of Ireland set up The Hard Gospel Project in 2005 it was making a statement ? that a ?whatever you say, say nothing? approach? to key issues affecting the wellbeing of our community is never enough. Part of the brief of the Hard Gospel Project is to provoke robust, constructive discussion on matters that need urgent public attention.

In a joint initiative the Hard Gospel Project and The Junction are holding a number of ?Beyond the Box? seminars in Derry / Londonderry. These are public forums where well known speakers are invited to contribute and lead public discussion on key issues. As the name suggests, these events are meant to provoke thinking that goes beyond the predictable.

On Monday 13th November the first of these events will take place. The subject is Where there is no vision ? leadership in the Protestant / unionist community. Prominent journalist Liam Clarke (NI Editor of The Sunday Times) and David Ervine (Leader of the PUP) will be the keynote speakers. They will address key questions such as:

What sort of public political leadership is being given to the Protestant / unionist community at present?
What type of vision is informing political leadership at present?
What challenges exist for those seeking to give political leadership?
Reflecting on the psyche of the Protestant community at present, what type of political leadership is most needed?

In a joint statement Rev Earl Storey (Director of the Hard Gospel Project) and Audrey Guichon (The Junction) said:

?The success of these events does not lie in whether or not you agree with the speakers. The purpose is to provide a forum for public discussion of difficult issues that directly affect our community. It is an opportunity to grapple with difficult issues in a public way.?

These seminars are open to all and are free of charge. A light lunch is provided. To confirm your attendance please contact Audrey Guichon + 44 (0)28 71361942
