The Church of Ireland Board of Education (N.I.) and the Church of Ireland Youth Department recently held a joint seminar for those working with children and young people in the church around ethical funding.

Over twenty participants from fourteen parishes attended the evening in CIYD office in Belfast facilitated by Jimmy Laverty from Community Change (pictured above). Jimmy has worked as a community fundraiser for over twenty years and has particular knowledge of ethical funding in relation to churches.

‘This was a great opportunity for churches to get support in real live issues of fundraising and support,’ Dr Peter Hamill, Secretary to the Board of Education (N.I.), commented. ‘Jimmy brings a great depth of knowledge and practical application.’

A parish treasurer added: ‘This was a fantastic seminar and has been really helpful as we consider how we might raise money to employ a parish youth worker.’  Similarly, a youth worker remarked that it was ‘a brilliant event that would have saved me years of hard work if it had happened when I was first employed in my role.’
