January ‘Archive of the Month’ – The registers of Newtownbarry (Bunclody) Union
Family historians with ancestry in the vicinity of Bunclody, County Wexford, and its related parishes along the north–western boundary of County Wexford with County Carlow, will be particularly pleased to view the first Archive of the Month for 2013 at the Representative Church Body Library. This sees transcripts of the surviving parish registers of baptism, marriage and burial for the parishes of Newtownbarry (alias Bunclody), Kildavin, Kilrush and Clonegal online for the first time, together with a useful index to all of the names recorded for each of the four parishes.
Like those for Delgany (launched last November) the painstaking task of transcription has again been carried out by Mark Williams, who has worked heroically for almost two decades, giving rise to the Anglican Record Project. Now for the first time, people searching for families in Bunclody union from the late–18th century to the early part of the 20th century, can use the easily searchable pdfs to assist in their research.
From the RCB Library, Dr Susan Hood who co–ordinates the Archive of the Month initiative, said ‘we are delighted to continue this collaboration with Mark Williams and the Anglican Record Project, to make more widely available the invaluable genealogical information contained in parish register in our custody – in this case the parishes in Bunclody Union via the Church of Ireland website’.
