CHURCH OF IRELAND ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST SPEAKS AT INTERNATIONAL GENEALOGICAL FESTIVAL
The Model Arts and Niland Gallery in Sligo, one of Ireland?s premier arts centres and home to the impressive Niland Art Collection, was the venue for the International Genealogical Festival organised by the County Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Society.
Almost 100 international delegates from all over the world were present, and lectures were delivered by representatives of the main record repositories in Ireland, professional genealogists and historians.
A lecture on the main collections at the RCB Library in Dublin, the principal repository for Church of Ireland records, was presented by the Library?s Assistant Archivist, Dr Susan Hood. The strong international dimension of the festival reflects the heavy demand that there is from around the world for the Library?s services.
The RCB Library houses almost 900 collections of parish registers which are used everyday to assist people to trace their Irish roots. It thus provides a powerful connector between the Church and wider world.
The Library is open to the public Monday to Friday 9.30-1.00 and 2.00-5.00 throughout the year.
