ARCHIVES AWARENESS MONTH
Tuesday 7th September 2004
The Society of Archivists, Ireland has launched Archives Awareness Month to draw public attention to an aspect of the nation?s life, which although better known in recent years, is still, in many cases, seriously under resourced.
The official launch took place in Dublin City Library and Archives and was performed by writer and broadcaster, Dr John Bowman, who is a member of the National Archives Advisory Council.
The Church of Ireland was represented by Dr Raymond Refaussé and Dr Susan Hood from the RCB Library, and also present was Mr Stuart Kinsella, Honorary Secretary of the Archives and Education Committee of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.
The RCB Library is the Church of Ireland?s repository for its archives and manuscripts. It holdings include records from over 860 parishes, 18 dioceses and 19 cathedrals as well as the archives of the Representative Church Body, the General Synod and the House of Bishops.
