Archbishop John McDowell supports Focolare Movement at Augsburg conference

Archbishop John McDowell has this week attended ‘Dare to be One, a call from Jesus to live the future, now’ – the 40th ecumenical conference of bishops as friends of the Focolare Movement in Augsburg, Germany.

Ireland was also represented by Bishop Brendan Leahy, the Catholic Bishop of Limerick; Bishop Trevor Williams, formerly Church of Ireland Bishop of Limerick and Killaloe; Bishop Richard Clarke, formerly Archbishop of Armagh; and Bishop Sarah Groves, from the Moravian Church.

Sixty–six bishops participated from 26 countries and 29 Christian denominations; also present were Focolare’s President, Margaret Karram, and Co–President, Jesús Morán.

Nicolas Schnall from the Catholic Diocese of Augsburg’s press office reports on the meeting in an article at this link on the Focolare website.

The Focolare Movement, originating in 1943 in Trento, Italy, has become a beacon of unity across the Christian world. With a presence in over 180 countries and approximately 140,000 members, the movement bridges denominational gaps, connecting Christians from 350 different churches.
