Special prayer for Queen Elizabeth II at Bishop’s Enthronement Service

Many of those gathering for the Service of Enthronement of the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr Ian Ellis, in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Clogher, on Thursday evening learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the service.

At the beginning of the service, the Dean of Clogher, the Very Revd Kenneth Hall, informed the congregation that news had just came through that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away at Balmoral. A minute’s silence was observed and the National Anthem was played.

At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Ellis referred to the news and said: “Let us turn our thoughts to her and her family tonight. All families who have suffered bereavement understand loss. For all families it is a loss and for the Royal Family it will be no different. Our thoughts and prayers are with them tonight.”

Offering a prayer, Bishop Ellis said: “God of hope and giver of all comfort, we commend to your keeping those who mourn the loss of loved ones especially the Royal Family. Give them O God a spirit of thanksgiving, give them above all a peace that passes all understanding, and let them know that neither death nor life can separate them from the love of Jesus Christ our Lord.”
