The Rt Revd Michael Burrows has been enthroned in several of the cathedrals of the United Dioceses of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe.  Bishop Burrows was translated to the dioceses in April, from Cashel, Ferns and Ossory.  Services of enthronement took place in St Mary’s Cathedral, Tuam, on Sunday, 24th April, in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Killala, on Sunday 1st May, and St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick, on Saturday, 7th May.

Balteagh Group pushes the boat out in fellowship

Members of the Aghanloo, Balteagh, Carrick and Tamlaghtard Group of Churches pushed the boat out, in a manner of speaking, with a parish outing to Rathlin Island, on the Feast Day of St Matthias. More than 40 members and friends of the parish churches accompanied the Rector, the Rev Rhys Jones, on the Saturday daytrip.

‘Stand together to make parish a truly welcoming place’

The Parish of Castleknock and Mulhuddart with Clonsilla welcomed their new rector with open arms on Friday evening (May 20). The Revd Colin McConaghie was instituted at a service in St Brigid’s Church, Castleknock, by Archbishop Michael Jackson. The Archbishop described the parish as energetic and welcoming with a great sense of community, openness and belonging and its people had awaited the arrival of their new Rector with excitement.

Commemoration of the Lusitania tragedy

On Sunday 8th May, the Rector of Cobh and Glanmire Union of Parishes, Canon Paul Arbuthnot, led the prayers at the 107th commemoration of the Lusitania tragedy. Fr Aquin Casey of Cobh Cathedral was also in attendance and the liturgy included a wreath laying and the names of all the victims being read by civic dignitaries.

Rector of Kilgariffe Union receives Community Award

On Tuesday, 17th May, the Mayor of Clonakilty, Mr Anthony McDermott, and the members of the Clonakilty Mayoral Council presented the Revd Kingsley Sutton with a community award for his outstanding community spirit in his many video productions over the Covid–19 pandemic.

Get ready for Vocation Sunday 2022

One of Down and Dromore’s Diocesan Directors of Ordinands, the Revd Karen Salmon, prepares us for Vocation Sunday which is taking place in the diocese on 29th May. Watch out on that Sunday for an address from the second DDO, the Revd Simon Genoe.

Art exhibition returns to Dunluce

Dunluce Parish Church hosted its annual Art and Photographic Exhibition from 29th April 29 to 2nd May in the Parish Centre, Bushmills, raising £2,471 for Bishops’ Appeal for Ukraine.  The exhibition returned after a two–year break due to the pandemic, and more than 40 artists exhibited their work, with around 160 artworks on display.

Double celebration in Macosquin

The parishioners of Camus–Juxta–Bann enjoyed a memorable day, last weekend, at the Macosquin 400 Jubilee Fete. The festivities were a double celebration of 400 years of St. Mary’s Church and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  The festivities took place in the rectory garden, beside St Mary’s Church. Many thanks to all those who helped organise the fête and to the hundreds of people who came along, including the Lord Lieutenant for County Londonderry, Mrs Alison Millar.
