News from around the Church of Ireland

Welcome to our weekly round–up of news from around the Church of Ireland’s dioceses and parishes, now resuming after General Synod 2022.  This week’s stories come from:

Commissioning of Pastoral Visitors in Armagh Diocese

A Service of Commissioning for Pastoral Visitors took place in Mullavilly Parish Church on Monday 9th May when 10 visitors were commissioned by Archbishop John McDowell after undertaking training led by Archdeacon Elizabeth Cairns.

Gearing up for Aware

Simon Malley will be doing a Wheelchair Push to raise money for Aware again this year. He is starting on 1st June and will finish on 30th June.  We still remember all the lockdowns during the pandemic. In 2021, when everyone was restricted to a 5km radius, Simon wondered how many kms he could do in his wheelchair in a month without leaving his 5km restriction.

Royal exhibition in Drummaul to mark Platinum Jubilee

In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Drummaul Parish Church is hosting a right Royal exhibition until 22nd May.  The church will be full of memorabilia collected over the years by the vicar of Drummaul, Duneane and Ballyscullion, the Rev Canon Derek Kerr.

Latest news from Cork, Cloyne and Ross
Recent stories from our most southerly diocese include the appointment of the Revd Cliff Jeffers as Dean of Ross, a day out for Moviddy Union’s Confirmation class, the ‘Darkness into Light’ initiative in Rushbrooke and the marking of centenaries in the Bandon Valley.

Christ Church, Rushbrooke, was recently lit during the night as a reminder that those who suffer from mental health problems and bereavement from suicide are not alone.
