Service of Hope at Easter
Sunday, 4th April, 11.25–11.55am, BBC One Northern Ireland
A Service of Hope at Easter with the Church Leaders will be broadcast on Sunday, 4th April, on BBC One Northern Ireland, from 11:25am.
For much of the past year, Christian communities across Northern Ireland have not met in person for collective worship in a response to Covid–19.
In this programme for Easter Sunday, the leaders of the main Christian churches, along with the President of the Irish Council of Churches, will offer personal messages of hope to take people forward and look ahead after a year dominated by the Coronavirus.
In this Service of Hope at Easter, the reflections of Archbishops John McDowell and Eamon Martin along with those of the Revd Dr Tom McKnight, President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, and the Rt Revd Dr David Bruce, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland are intercut with hymns recorded for Songs of Praise in Northern Ireland. The scripture reading, St Matthew’s account of the Resurrection, is offered by the Very Revd Dr Ivan Patterson, President of the Irish Council of Churches.
It will also feature a presentation of the Psalms from the American–born singer Kiran Young Wimberly and the McGrath Family from Dungannon, recorded at the Burnavon Theatre in Cookstown.
The service is presented from the Waterfront Hall in Belfast by Audrey Carville, and features as part of BBC Northern Ireland’s Faith and Hope for Spring 2021 season.
The programme will also be available after broadcast on the BBC iPlayer at this link.
The Church Leaders Group comprises the Church of Ireland and Roman Catholic Primates of All Ireland, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, the President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, and the President of the Irish Council of Churches.
