Business Continues at Online General Synod

The business of General Synod 2020 is continuing online. A video celebrating the 30th anniversary of the ordination of women in the Church of Ireland. This can be watched here.

Lyndon McCann SC was nominated and appointed Assessor of Synod by the president. The Rev Malcolm Kingston was elected as a clerical Honorary Secretary of General Synod.

A motion on Standing Orders proposing the removal of the words “by post” from the Standing Order, so that the notice of meeting of the General Synod may be sent to members by email if circumstances make printing and posting difficult or unsafe for staff was passed.

Honorary Secretary, Canon Gillian Wharton laid the following reports on the table

• The Book of Reports 2020 incorporating the following:

  • The Report of the Representative Church Body
  • The Report of the Standing Committee
  • The Report of the General Synod Board of Education
  • The Report of the Church of Ireland Youth Department
  • The Report of the Covenant Council
  • The Report of the Commission for Christian Unity and Dialogue
  • The Report of the Liturgical Advisory Committee
  • The Report of the Church of Ireland Council for Mission
  • The Report of the Commission on Ministry
  • The Report of the Church of Ireland Marriage Council

Canon Wharton presented the communication from the Record Committee certifying two copies of the Statutes passed at General Synod 2019 and the report of the Bills Committee.

The Bishop of Cashel, the Right Revd Michael Burrows, is now chairing the Bills section of Synod.
