Give ‘Christmas Dinner in a Box’

This Christmas, many community dinners and open invitations won’t be happening as usual, but The Larder Foodbank has come up with a great idea to help us share this special meal with those for whom Christmas Day is looming large.

They are inviting people to partner with them and make a gift of Christmas Dinner in a Box. You simply fill a box with the items in their shopping list (pictured above) and drop it into The Larder on Mersey Street along with a suggested £20 cash donation to cover the turkey and veg that they’ll add in just before the big day.

Every year The Larder Foodbank provides food, support and hope to thousands of people in inner East Belfast. It’s an independent foodbank run by St Christopher’s Community at St Christopher’s Church, Mersey Street and is led by Louise Ferguson.

Many parishes and individuals already support a foodbank and Louise is keen that we continue to do so, but if you live in or around East Belfast, please do consider giving Christmas Dinner in a Box. As Louise says, “Now more than ever we need to support each other and ensure this season in this year is less marked by indulgence and excess and instead by profound connections.”

When and where to give

Boxes can be left in during opening hours up until 17 December:

Tuesday 10–12 noon
