DHard Gospel - About Us - Earl Storeyirector

Earl Storey has served as Rector in parishes both in Northern Ireland and the Republic. He is committed to working for two things – renewal within the context of a local church and reconciliation in our community. Believing that church must always be party politically neutral, he also encourages church members to be actively involved in the civic and political life of their community. Earl is an Honorary Fellow of Incore (University of Ulster). In 2003 he published ‘Traditional Roots’ – Towards an Appropriate Relationship with the Orange Order. He has also written a report entitled ‘New Pathways to Employment’.

    Earl says

"The trouble with Jesus’ teaching is that it is shockingly simple. The Hard Gospel finds its passion in the Story of the Good Samaritan. Being an effective witness either north or south is not different in essence. It is the same! It is about loving God more than anything else and loving our neighbour, whoever that might be. What does that mean in practice at this key moment in Ireland, both north and south? The work of the Hard Gospel is to facilitate the Church of Ireland at all levels to reflect on that key question – what does it mean to love God and our neighbour."
Several years ago he decided to leave parish ministry so that he could make a contribution to reconciliation by joining a political party – eventually standing (unsuccessfully!!) for election. He has worked with ECONI, Christian Aid as well as The Cresco Trust, which works with unemployed and marginalized young people. Since taking up the post of Director of the Hard Gospel Project he has stepped out of any political affiliation or involvement.
