Project Officer (Belfast based)

My name is Stephen Dallas and I am the Northern Ireland Project Officer for the Hard Gospel.  My background has been in Youth Work in the voluntary and statutory sectors.  It was always my intentions to work with young people and be a resource and support. I loved every minute of it and even now 3 months into my new post I miss the laughs!  However  last year I got to the point were I wanted something different to get my teeth into something different.

When I decided to leave my previous employer a good friend asked me why I wanted to work for the Church – I am sure many of people have watched people screw up their faces and ask that question.  My answer focused on the church being the body of people who could help rebuild alienated individuals and restore hope to many housing estates, villages and town centres.  This is a central value I hold.

I am of the opinion that God values the programmes Churches run (useful as they can be) but more so the character that is not proud and prepared to love.  These Christians will walk through the moral dilemmas, depression, disaster zones of many people’s everyday lives in order to ensure the light is carried to the dark places.  Lately I have been reading the Gospel and Luke and reminding myself the amount of times Jesus found himself among crowds.  It is among people our King lived.  He was significant because he healed many illnesses and because people found no comfort or authority among the powerful. As part of the Hard Gospel team I hope to support groups of people in parishes to take on this challenge.

As a Christians you may have walked past a local pub, read about a criminality in your borough or observed the deterioration of your local area and felt absolutely powerless to do anything positive to help alcohol abuse, crime or vandalism.  This is a healthy place and it is among Christians with this frustration that the Hard Gospel can offer support.
