Many parish registers were destroyed in the fire in the Public Record Office of Ireland in 1922. However the RCB Library now holds over 1,159 original collections of registers, many of them in the context of larger collections of parish registers. The definitive and colour–coded List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers (including materials in the Library and in local custody and other locations) is available at this link.
Additionally, a county–by–county breakdown of registers available at the RCB Library is further provided here (updated January 2023).
The county breakdown of vestry minute books available Library is available here (updated November 2021).
Detailed hand–lists of individual parish record collections available in the Library are systematically being uploaded to the website, via the master List of Parish Registers. The hardcopy masters may also be viewed in the Library.
With the exception of registers of baptisms, marriages and burials all classes of parish record are subject to a 40–year access rule.
A small number of parish registers have been digitised and are available to view on the Online Parish Records and Anglican Record Project pages.
Records of baptisms, marriages and burials for parish registers in the city of Dublin and Cos Carlow and Kerry are available on a free government website www.irishgenealogy.ie.
Records of protestant marriages from 1845 and all births and deaths from 1864 are available from the General Register Office, Government Offices, Convent Road, Roscommon, Co. Roscommon – www.groireland.ie
