The Rt Revd Noel Willoughby, former Bishop of Cashel and Ossory dies

The Rt Revd Noel Willoughby, former Bishop of Cashel and Ossory died on 6th February 2006. He was Curate of Drumglass 1950-53; Curate of Dublin St Catherine’s 1953-55; Curate of Bray Christ Church 1955-59; Incumbent of Delgany 1959-69; Incumbent of Glenageary 1969-80; Treasurer of St Patrick Cathedral Dublin 1977-80; Archdeacon of Dublin 1978-80 and Bishop of Cashel and Ossory 1980-97. He was in his eightieth year and is survived by his wife Valerie, sons Paul and Tim, and daughter Ros.


Funeral arrangements:

On Thursday 9th February there will be a civic procession from the Municipal Buildings (Old Tate School), Wexford to St Iberius’ Church, Wexford, beginning at 6.30pm. This will be followed by a civic reception and Holy Communion Service at St Iberius’ Church. The preacher will be the Rt Revd Walton Empey, formerly Archbishop of Dublin. Bishop Willoughby was made a freeman of Wexford in 1991.

Funeral service on Friday 10th February at 12 noon in St Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny followed by burial. Celebrant the Most Revd Dr John Neill, Archbishop of Dublin, preacher the Rt Revd Walton Empey.
