This year rather than focusing on the traditional approach of giving things up for Lent, St. Columba’s Parish, Knock in Belfast adopted a positive attitude of organising various fundraising events for Bóthar. As a result of this £6,700 was raised for Bóthar.
The rector the Revd John Auchmuty said: “This is a tremendous result, which clearly reflects the parish’s deep commitment and enthusiasm for mission. Through their hard work and generosity, St. Columba’s has provided Bóthar with enough money to send 32 goats to families in developing countries. This money is in addition to the £1,000, which the Select Vestry had previously given Bóthar as part of its charitable giving for 2007.
“While St. Columba’s has been able to support Bóthar through their fundraising and prayers, Bóthar has also been able to support St. Columba’s in a unique way, through the great fellowship they have all enjoyed together at the fundraising events. This has been of immense benefit to the life and ministry of St. Columba’s. I thank all the parishioners and members of the local community for their support in making fundraising on behalf of Bóthar a priority throughout Lent.”
At the morning service on Sunday, 27 April at 10.30 a.m. in St Columba’s Parish, Knock, Bishop Edward Darling, who is one of the Patrons of Bóthar, will receive a cheque for £6,700 on behalf of Bóthar.
