Bishops' Advisory Commission on Doctrine

The Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Down and
Dromore, Canon Harold Miller, will be consecrated on Friday, 25th April 1997 in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh At 2.30 p.m.
The Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Revd. Dr. Robin Eames will preside as Primate of the Northern Province of the Church of Ireland. The Presenting Bishops will be the Bishop of Tuam, the Rt. Revd. John Neill and the Bishop of Cork, the Rt. Revd. Roy Warke. Other members of the House of Bishops will also attend together with Bishops of Southwark, Woolwich, Morray, Ross Caihness and also of Milwaukee. The sermon will be given by Canon Dr. Christina Baxter, Dean of Studies, St. John's College, Nottingham.
During the service, the new Bishop will receive the symbols of his office - his cross, his ring and crozier and be clothed in the vestments of a bishop. He will also receive a Bible from the Archbishop as a symbol of his duty to oversee the spreading of the Gospel. The service will be one of Consecration which includes the Holy Communion celebrated by the Archbishop of Armagh.
Following his Consecration the new bishop will be pastor to 97,000 people. His diocese extends from Belfast to Newry and across to Portadown in County Armagh.
