SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE FOR VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE

The Belfast Cathedrals' Partnership is hosting a service of Remembrance of victims of violence in St Anne's Cathedral on Tuesday 30th October at 8.00pm.

The address will be given by Sir Kenneth Bloomfield and the praise will be led by the choristers of St Peter's and St Anne's Cathedrals.

Commenting on the planned Service, Monsignor Tom Toner of St Peters and The Very Rev Dr Houston McKelvey of St Anne's said, "On the Saturday after the tragedies in the U.S.A. a Prayer Service was organised by the Cathedrals' Partnership. Since then the immense loss of life in those sad events has become clearer.

"These tragedies impacted on the deeply painful memories of those in Ireland who are victims of violence either personally or as family members and friends.

"This service is being held to affirm our sympathy with those recently bereaved in the U.S.A. And to reassure victims of violence here and their relatives, that their suffering has not been forgotten.

"The service is being held in the week leading to All Saints' and All Souls' days, which is the season of remembrance in our Churches' calendar.

"Whilst this service is open to all members of the public we will be attempting to contact those individuals and families known to us and various victim support groups."

Everyone is welcome to this service.
