The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey has invited the Church of
Ireland Primate, Dr Robin Eames to accompany him on a special visit to the
Holy Land later this week.
This visit is in response to the request of the Anglican Bishop of
Jerusalem at a time when the Christian communities in Israel and Palestine
are suffering immense pressure due to the violence and tensions in the
region. During the four day visit the two Primates will meet government
and political leaders in Jerusalem and Gaza, church leaders of the
Anglican and Orthodox and other traditions as well as meeting
representatives of church communities in isolated areas.
Dr Eames, who is the senior Primate of the Anglican Communion, said:
“I feel honoured to be asked to accompany the Archbishop of
Canterbury on this mission as we seek to encourage and support Christians
who are under such pressure at this tense time.” |
