More than 50 choristers from the choirs of St Anne’s Cathedral and St
Peter’s Cathedral are to write a collection of ‘Irish Prayers for
Peace’ to be used at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the
Cathedral of St John the Divine, New York.
The choristers will pen their prayers tonight at a prayer teach-in led
by Linda Arbuthnot after a special Advent Liturgy in St Anne’s and the
lighting of an Advent Candle of Hope.
Dean Houston McKelvey of St Anne’s and Monsignor Tom Toner of St
Peter’s said: “We applaud the boys and their teachers for coming
together to write these prayers to be used in New York. In the aftermath
of the terrorist outrage in that city any affirmation of a commitment to
peace, especially by young people, is to be welcomed.”
The choristers recently sang together at a Service of Remembrance for
Victims of Violence. |
