Six hundred delegates from the Church of Ireland Diocese of Down and
Dromore will be encouraged to 'look out' for fresh ways to communicate
the good news of the Christian Gospel, and serve the community. This
will take place at a Diocesan Outreach Conference in the Elim Centre,
Bangor on Saturday 24 November.
Among the wide range of interesting speakers will be Nicky Gumbel of
Holy Trinity Brompton, who pioneered the 'Alpha' course currently
showing on UTV on Sunday nights and through which thousands of people
experience life-changing faith in Christ. There will also be three
bishops present - Bishop Dan Herzog from the Diocese of Albany in New
York State to which Down & Dromore has a Companionship Link;
Archbishop Joseph Marona, the archbishop of Southern Sudan and Bishop
Justin Badi, bishop of Maridi
This conference is part of the Diocesan Think Again initiative which
is designed to renew the church in the first years of the new century.
In commenting, the Bishop of Down and Dromore, Harold Miller said: 'I
am keen to see us become a more open, welcome and relevant church, with
reconciliation, outreach and young people as our clear priorities. This
has to be worked out in action in every parish'.
During the day the delegates will have an opportunity to 'think
again' about many different issues in seminars such as urban social
outreach, moral issues, being a welcoming church etc. |
