Bishop of Down and Dromore, and Archdeacon Alan Harper on behalf of Rt Rev
James Moore, Bishop of Connor.
Dear Colleague,
The destruction, death and injury visited upon New York City,
Washington DC and Pennsylvania on Tuesday last has shocked and distressed
us all. The clergy and people of our two dioceses turn naturally at such a
time in prayer to Almighty God for the victims, the rescue workers, the
traumatized, the bereaved and those charged with responsibilities of
leadership. We ask that special prayers be offered in church services
throughout our two dioceses on Sunday, September 16th. We recall with
gratitude the constant prayers and tangible support of the church people
of the United States for the people of Northern Ireland over the past
three decades of our Troubles and we assure our American brothers and
sisters in Christ of our prayers for them now.
The prayers of the people of the Diocese of Down and Dromore gain
additional poignancy and focus because of the partnership link forged in
recent years with the Diocese of Albany in New York State.
Books of Condolence have been opened in Belfast’s two cathedrals –
St Anne’s and St Peter’s. The Books will remain open for signature for
some time. |
